Sibling Rivalry?

What is this recent trend of siblings not playing each other in tennis? Venus and Serena Williams have raised questions of match fixing and the Bryan brothers took turns trading defaults as they grew up. Now the trend has reached Central Ohio. Two years ago in the B14s at The Unlimited Open, the Hayward brothers pulled a double default in the final leaving the draw without a champion. And last week at the Whitehall Open, JR Pepino was given the title by brother RJ's default. Word has it that if this happens again to the Pepinos, it will be JR's turn to default. This all seems a bit unfair to others in the draw who are putting out their full effort to win matches. Being siblings didn't seem to bother the Everts, Mayers, Gulliksons and McEnroes.

Quit your whining. You're probably some guy who got beat by one of the Pepinos and it's actually pretty cool to see bros who don't wanna beat each other at a game of tennis. They do seem to play doubles well though. Pick up your game and maybe u can make it to the final and not have to worry about the default business!

No, I'm a tournament director who worries about the other entrants in my tournament.

props to the tournament director! My brother and I have played doubles with each other for years. We've also played against each other many times and I've NEVER beaten him in a singles match, but would i ever ask or would our parents ever ask him to default for me? NO, OF COURSE NOT. How could it be considered cool to want to default? It's a tennis match, and who wins shouldn't affect a family. It's all a part of growing up and dealing w/ the reality that competition is part of life and sometimes you have to compete against those you love. That's just how it goes. As for a certain team playing doubles well, if they can play together, as you say, "well", then they should have no trouble playing against.

Hey those are my brothers you are talking about! Just because they are talented at tennis, you don't have to be jealous. You don't even know the reason of the default!! R.J. could have been sick or whatever. Instead of judging their tournament play, maybe you should be working on your game or go through what they have gone through, then maybe you'll understand them and actually have somewhat of a reason to be talking so negatively. And to all the people saying these negative things about J.R. and R.J., maybe you're scared that you might have to face one of them or even maybe both of them in a match and will lose horribly.
